On 2002-09-05, Mark rated this Penley Penley Tour Lite Regular 49" Shaft / Golfsmith Harvey Penick 10.5 degree head / Lamkin Crossline Cord Grip a 5...(504)

Purchase: The Reason: I wanted 1. Distance 2. Control & Accuracy 3. Consistency From: Advantage Custom Clubmakers - Sydney Australia. How Much: All up about $340 Aus or $180 US dollars
Pros: 1. Distance 2. Control & Accuracy 3. Consistency I tried all the brand names, all the big titanium heads, everything. Couldn't hit them. Give me a compact steel head this one 220cc ish. A flexible shaft - this one Regular flex 3.3 torque mid kick. Even with my 120mph swing I can still handle this club accurately and consistently - it's not just long it's precise even at it's 49" length it's more precise than 44/5 inch brand name drivers. And the grip lets me hang on tight - slightly thin and a Lamkin crossline cord - the best grip in the game, the best shafts and I think a great head - compact steel which beats big heads that have more soft spots than a marshmallow.
Cons: I enjoy hitting it so much that it takes away from doing other things like paying some attention to my poor wife who has to suffer my absence / coming to the driving range with me.
Quality: Advantage Club Makers here in Sydney - the guys name is Paul are a top quality construction and fitting shop. They replace my head at no charge because when they measured it, it was 2 degrees open which was outside tollerence and gave me one which was within 0.5 degrees of square. All for nothing - they also offered to cut down my shaft 0.5 inches at a time if I couldn't handle the length. I won't be doing any cutting as I can handle it just fine but, that's service.

Review Summary: Bottom Line - I now hit the drives 310-320 yards on average. My best go out to about 340-360 at least once a round. I'm straighter than I've ever been - it's like attacking a green. On long par fours I now use a drive and a wedge on those 400-430 yard par 4er's rather than a drive and a 5-3 iron which sometimes still left me short. On the par 4 monsters 460+ yards I now get there - with a drive and a 8-6 iron rather than a drive and a 3 wood that often left me short. On par 5's under 500 yards I now get their with a drive and 5-3 iron. On those over 500 yards I reach up to 600 yards with a drive and a good 1 iron. If you can get a good club maker to put it together for you then I recommend the parts 1. Penley Shafts 2. Lamkin Crossline cord grips 3. Steel compact heads - Golfsmith Harvey Penick 10.5 degree was what I used. If you're in Sydney I totally recommend Advantage Custom Golf clubmakers at Crows Nest ask for Paul
